ALFREDO
MARTÍNEZ
Prof. J. Alfredo Martínez is currently Director of Precision Nutrition Programs at IMDEA Nutrition , and visiting professor at University of Valladolid holding a BPharm (licenciado) degree, a NutrPhD (Doctorate in Physiology and Nutrition ) by University of Navarra and a MD degree by University of Zaragoza. Also, he has developed academic responsibilities at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Universidad del Pais Vasco, Universidad de Valladolid and Universidad de Navarra in the areas of Physiology and Nutrition since 1982, being RANF “Fellow” since 2022.
Prof Martinez has addressed, in both Research and Professorship. the topic of Precision Personalized Nutrition and Pharmacy, including omics and machine learning tools, being involved in several EU landmark nutritional trials such as DIOGENES, SEAFOODplus, NUGENOB, FOOD4ME, STOP, PREVIEW, DIETARY DEALCLIMBOUT and SWEET, and belonging to national Consortia such as PREDIMED and CIBERobn, whose results and conceptual contributions have been published in the most relevant medical and scientific journals and editorials including NEJM, Lancet; Nature Endocrinology, BMJ, AJCN, Circulation, JAMA, Obesity Reviews etc Among publications (more than 950 in PUBMED) are 3 position papers from ISNN (International Society of Nutrigenetics & Nutrigenomics), which have been proposed as guides for the provision of personalized nutritional advice and the consolidation of knowledge in Nutrigenetics and applicability for personalized dietary advice in health and disease, which has generated an H index over 120 and six Positive Research 6-years approvals.
Prof Martínez has supervised more than 96 PhD students in the areas of Obesity/cardiometabolic diseases and Nutrition, including precision nutritional omics and public health matters. During his scientific career, Prof J. Alfredo Martínez has enjoyed training or invited stays at MIT, Nottingham, Berkeley, Harvard, Oxford and King´s College London. He is former President of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) and has been recipient of several important awards as well as current president of RINN22 (red Iberoamericana de Nutrición) and former AESAN (Agencia Española de Nutrición) member.
His investigations concerning the Nutritional knowledge and technologies in Communicable and Chronic diseases management and Precision Medicine and nutritional epidemiology have allowed to educate a great number of Nutrition and health professionals. to translate this knowledge in disease prevention and health maintenance to create a concept concerning sustainability, Prof J Alfredo Martinez has contributed to Nutritional Sciences advancements by producing more than 1500 documents with more than 50.000 article citations as well as collaborations and participations in diverse Courses and Seminars at as well as important lectures at OMS, FANS, FANUS, FENS. IUNS, etc concerning nutrition and health interactions in personalized population and planetary dimensions and with translational purposes for the implementation of public health policies.
